How the brain works
Scientists have been able to identify several regions of the brain which typically perform certain functions. It is believed that the conscious you resides at the front of the brain behind your forehead. Many of the things which you are consciously aware of are in the outer part of the brain just behind your forehead at the top and sides of your head. Much of what goes on in the middle and the larger part of the brain, you are probably unaware of. It all just happens automatically.
An area close to the middle of the brain called the Hippocampus is responsible for laying down long term memories and also finds time to make you spatially aware.
Emotions are processed deep inside the brain in the oldest parts which evolved early in the brains development.
Two separate areas on the left side of your brain called Wernicke’s and Broca’s area are responsible for language and speech.
These are just a few examples of how the brain contains areas which specialise to provide specific functions but which all work together to provide you. There are many sources of information and a search on the internet for ‘brain areas’ or similar will offer lots of choices.
